The FDA authorized the original JUUL device and its tobacco and menthol pods in July 2025. On August 28, 2026, it announced marketing orders for the JUUL2 device, a Virginia Tobacco pod and a Polar Menthol pod. All are on the FDA’s authorized list. Authorization does not mean a product is safe or “FDA approved.”

What’s new on the device
JUUL showed JUUL2 at the 2026 NACS Show with four lights for battery, e-liquid level, pod authenticity and app connection. Its PodID technology is meant to confirm a pod is genuine, and an optional app lets adults 21+ lock a paired device. JUUL also claims about 20% more battery life and 70% more e-liquid per pod. Those are the company’s numbers, not independent tests.

Nicotine strength and availability
The original JUUL comes in 3% and 5%; the authorized JUUL2 pods are 18 mg/mL. JUUL says it plans to apply for 5% JUUL2 pods and more flavors, but those aren’t authorized. At the NACS Show, JUUL2 was labeled “coming soon,” so it may take time to reach stores. Don’t assume JUUL2 pods fit the original JUUL; check the packaging.
